Album story

The Maastricht-based duo Jodymoon is releasing a new album and kicking off a new tour in 2025. They’re also introducing a new sound. Inspired by a drum machine and the rediscovered electric guitar, the familiar Jodymoon sound on their new album The Machine gets a catchy urban twist. The Machine will be released on March 14 and performed during a compact release tour this spring. The title track, The Machine, has already been released as a single on streaming services. The second single Still Running will be available as from 31 January.

A Modern Take on the Singer-Songwriter Sound
After releasing their live album last year, Digna Janssen and Johan Smeets sought new musical ideas. They found them when Johan brought out an old drum machine and started experimenting with it. The song The Machine was born and quickly became the title track of the new album and tour. “The Machine is the first Jodymoon song to feature a drum machine,” says Digna. “We wanted to create a modern take on the singer-songwriter sound, but still keep the heart of our songs, and I think we’ve succeeded.” The electric guitar was also rediscovered and now takes on a prominent role on the new album.

Innovation and Refreshment
A common theme throughout The Machine is how we’re moving toward a society regulated by artificial intelligence and algorithms. We’re becoming increasingly dependent on devices and computers. Are we losing our knowledge, skills, and craftsmanship in the process? Don’t we really want to return to the basics — to nature and humanity? And, can we even go back? Around these questions, Digna and Johan wrote and recorded ten inspiring songs in the studio, for the first time in Jodymoon’s history with help from… a machine! With a fresh urban-pop-folk sound on The Machine, Jodymoon opts for innovation while continuing to do what we’ve loved them for all these years: writing catchy songs and performing them with passion.

Jodymoon
Jodymoon was founded in 2006 by singer/pianist Digna Janssen and multi-instrumentalist Johan Smeets. In 2008, they won the public prize at the Grote Prijs van Nederland with their blend of folk, pop, and roots music. Since then, Jodymoon has released seven studio albums, all of which have received rave reviews. In late 2023, the duo released the double album The Best of Live 2013-2023, featuring live recordings from the past ten years, captured during concerts in Amsterdam, Bilbao, Hamburg, Heerlen, Cologne, and their hometown of Maastricht. The Machine (March 2025) will be their eighth studio album.
